How To Turn Heads At The Christmas Party
It is nearly time for the ultimate decision of the season, that question that has awake at night and scouring all the fashion magazines; What does one wear to the office Christmas party? But with most work parties happening in mid to late November, suddenly that big Christmas outfit decision is looking pretty imminent. God forbid that you think you have cracked the ultimate fashion decision of the year to find that someone else has had the same bright idea and then turned up in the same Christmas party dress, fashion nightmares looming!
From October until the end of December, every occasion is deemed party-worthy, with birthdays, milestones, launches, farewell drinks and, of course, the official and unofficial Christmas celebrations circuit. This means we have to be on full party stand-by mode with the arsenal of Christmas party outfits to get us through the season!
Party Rule #1
You can't go wrong with sequins, as it is ultimate classic when it comes to after-dark dressing even if it isn’t the most practical garment in your wardrobe but who needs practical when all you want to do is rock the dance floor. We just love a full sequin ensemble and if that means we look a bit like we've had an accident with a pot of glitter, so be it.
But for those of you who are looking for a subtler way to rock the sequins, incorporate it in to one element of your outfit such a striking line of sequins on your trousers or a sequin embellished piece of outerwear.

Party Rule #2
Move over LBD, here comes the jumpsuit.
Of course, there are always dresses to fall back on for the party season. Dresses provide us with a fail-safe way of looking fancy with next to no effort. However, we're here to tell you they're not the only one-and-go option.
If you're keen to try something a little different this party season, jumpsuits are where it's at.
Party Rule #3
It's a yes to velvet
If you are anything like me, until recently I had a real aversion to all things velvet with the flashbacks to the era of the velvet tracksuit, but it has been making a mega come back this season. Just saying my next party outfit selection might (read that as will!) include velvet. The key here is to pick styles that won’t date and leave you wishing you had given it a wide berth, that is why we are loving the 1 shoulder look
Debbie Velvet One Shoulder Dress £75
True, velvet isn't for everyone, but in my opinion, everyone can add the simplest of touches of velvet to their outfit even with a stunning velvet evening clutch.
Party Rule #4
Florals work whatever the weather
No real surprises here, but one of summer 2018's coolest dress trends involves florals. However, this season, modern patterns have given way to vintage-inspired blooms to make us fall in love with the perennial print all over again.
But people always seem to put those florals away for the winter season which is a big error as they can totally work for the winter. Style them in completely different way to summer by embracing muted and moody florals for that spur of the moment cocktail party or throw on that duster cost to embrace the trend for separates in partywear. It is the height of desk to bar dressing which all social butterflies among us need help with!
Party Rule #5
You can never go wrong with metallics
Metallic midi dresses have been waking the magpie in seemingly every street style photographer for the past couple of seasons, and it's easy to see why. These dresses create just enough flash while maintaining a daytime-friendly level of modesty, thanks to their longer hemline and full shape. Incorporating a little bit of metallics in to your workwear means you will always be read for that impromptu invite that lands in your inbox at 5pm on a Friday.
