Traffic People's Style resolutions for 2019
With the new season upon us bringing it’s air for renewal (and hopefully the sun!), we have resolved to make style resolutions this season to renew our wardrobe and ensure the pieces that we purchase become true investment pieces I will love for seasons to come. With sustainability being the buzz word of this season, it has led to many of us shying away from fast fashion and hunting out those true treasures in the fashion world “the investment piece” or heading back in to our wardrobes rediscover what hidden lovelies that lurch there and how they can be revamped with additional pieces or accessories for the summer.
For people who spends much of their time working alongside clothing, it's interesting how few trends translate or find their way into our own wardrobes. We often swerve the big ones (like the kind you'll find in our S/S19 trend report), not because we don't like them or can't imagine ourselves wearing them, rather they just don’t suit us which we are sure many of you out there can sympathise with.
However, there are some trends we think will stand the test of time coming through for Spring Summer 2019 and these are where you should be looking to invest in!
The Really Big Dress
If your next dress purchase doesn't resemble something that's either a tent or a piece that someone on the Little House on the Prairie cast would wear, then this trend for really big dresses (or RBDs as I'm going to start calling them for short) hasn't hit your wardrobe yet. We are talking ditzy florals, delicate bows & ruffles and pastel paisleys. The prairie dress trend is about to explode for summer 2019. These long length boho maxi dresses are just the kind of “throw on” styles we crave for our wardrobe.
If the thought of “Really Big Dresses” strikes the fear of fashion faux-pas with you, why not embrace the trend for over-accessoring this season and stick a clearly chosen belt for a more defined silhouette.
Bows
Over this last year, buttons seemed key to the fastening story but with softer lines such as our boho floral midi dresses, especially our standout mustard maxi dress the Sabrina, we are seeing fastenings taking a similar turn with bows becoming the star of the show. If you are not overly keen to be adorning yourself with the bow, try adding this trend in with your accessories for an easier take on this trend.
Fringes
If bows just aren’t your thing, maybe we can tempt you to join the fringe revolution! The catwalks were awash with fringing alongside western inspired pieces. This the detail you’ll see swishing from every possible hem, sleeve, bag and any other form of accessory you can name. Whether it is used to emphasise your waist or for swishing those sleeves around the dancefloor, this is one trend you can use to full effect for fun this summer.
1980's
Love or loathe this power dressing decade, it appears the 1980’s is a trend that will carry itself forward from winter. This decade was not known for it’s subtleness, however, it is possible to inject some 80s power in to your 2019 wardrobe in a more demure fashion. Think confetti inspired prints and touches of gold as a gentle nod to the decade known for its outrageous trends.
Beige
There is a certain relaxed elegance that subtly threads through 2019 trends often found in simple silhouettes across a spectrum of beige. Here at Traffic People are not known for our demure prints, but we have managed to find a Traffic People spin on this elegant trend by using beige & off whites as background colours to several our prints this season to nod to the trend.
