Summer Is Over: How To Fall In Love With The Autumn
Now that Summer is over (sad faces), we at Traffic People can take comfort that the changing of season means we get to invest in an entirely new wardrobe full of beautiful new autumn outfits. Now that is a reason to find some cheer in those dark, windy autumnal days. Autumn is a good time to reboot your wardrobe and invest in those key pieces that will see you right through winter and in to early spring, so you are sure to wear this investment pieces over again. Getting dressed in October can be tricky. One moment you're reaching for a winter coat, and the next you're wondering why you left the house in your black opaque. For a new-season refresh, opt for autumnal rich tones such as conker browns and plum shades reflecting the changing colours, and make your outfits weatherproof with playful layering such as cardigans and jumpers that can be easily switched out and stuffed in your handbag.
Classic prints are always worth holding onto.
There are certain prints and patterns that always come back into fashion: animal print, stripe and ditsy florals being three reliable ones. All of them are currently popular once more, so it's worth snapping these up as they will remain staples with your wardrobe. Remembering that those fabulous floral and floaty dress that you can wear right now whilst the weather is still warmer, can be teamed and layered with jumpers and cardigans for a soft autumn look when the weather turns or those of you looking for an edgier look dig out your vintage denim jacket to throw over.
Animal print is huge trend this autumn with leopard making a huge comeback with the fashions of the 80s making a reappearance, however we like to stand out for the crowd so we are embracing the peacock in beautifully classic shapes with delectable detailing this season as Andrea from the Haute Heel demonstrates in our favourite the Audrey dress.
The Autumn Midi Shirt Dress Is Your Forever Friend.
There are certain autumn dresses that come along like a flash in the pan, "the next big thing" that you see everyone wearing and then it disappears as soon as it arrives and then there are the dresses that sit quietly in your wardrobe, but you always remembered why you loved it when you pull it out again. Hands up if you always plan your workwear wardrobe on a Sunday night for the week ahead… Hands up if you set aside your outfit the night before… If you’re anything like me, you’re already running seven minutes late, so you grab pieces from your bedroom chair and throw them together hoping to look somewhat presentable, this is where the shirt dress comes in to its own! So, this season I am celebrating the return of the shirt dress to my wardrobe with its simple elegance that makes that perfect piece that helps you make an easy transition from work to that dinner date with a quick change of shoe or handbag, making you set to go for that night on the town.
Embrace the Separates
Dresses seem to dominate our summer wardrobes as easy, cool throw on pieces but with the autumn looming upon us our eyes turn towards those gorgeous separates that have been gracing the high street and the streets of London for fashion week. Skirts don’t come much more elegant than the pleated midi, and right now we’re buying into our metallic and animal print incarnations. Match a shirt or jumper for a flawless day ensemble and this will look just as elegant with heels and a camisole after dark.
However, we cannot overlook the return of the trouser, it had seemed to have fallen out of favour with the fashion pack, but it is now back with a bang with them gracing the streets of London, with corduroy leading the charge teamed with beautifully designed shirts. But for those of you not brave enough to rock the cord without it giving you flash-backs, we have taken the softer option whilst embracing some of the seasons key trends such as floral or rich autumnal tones coordinated with an animal print shirt as beautifully coordinated on Franziska.
